Emomali Rahmon<\/strong> (Persian: \u0627\u0645\u0627\u0645\u200c\u0639\u0644\u06cc \u0631\u062d\u0645\u0627\u0646\u200e; until March 21, 2007<\/strong> \u2014 Rakhmonov Emomali Sharifovich<\/strong>; born October 5, 1952<\/strong>, in Danghara<\/strong>, Kulob Region, Tajik SSR, USSR) is a Tajik statesman and politician<\/strong>. He served as Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong> from 1992 to 1994<\/strong> and has been the President of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong> since 1994<\/strong>. Since December 25, 2015<\/strong>, he has also held the title Leader of the Nation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biography<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emomali Rahmon was born on October 5, 1952<\/strong>, in the Danghara district<\/strong> of Tajikistan, into a peasant family<\/strong>. He is married and is the father of nine children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 1969<\/strong>, he graduated from Vocational Technical School No. 40<\/strong> in the city of Kalininobod<\/strong> (now Sarband<\/strong>). In 1982<\/strong>, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Tajik National University<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Career<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

He began his working career in 1969<\/strong> as an electrician<\/strong> at the oil extraction plant in Qurghonteppa<\/strong>.
From 1971 to 1974<\/strong>, he served in the Pacific Fleet<\/strong> during his military service. After completing his service, he returned to his homeland and worked at the Lenin State Farm in Danghara district<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1976 to 1987<\/strong>, he held the positions of secretary of the management board<\/strong> and chairman of the trade union committee<\/strong> of the Lenin State Farm in Danghara district. He later worked in party bodies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1987 to 1992<\/strong>, he was the director of the Lenin State Farm<\/strong> in Danghara district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political career<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 1990<\/strong>, Emomali Rahmon was elected a People\u2019s Deputy<\/strong> to the 12th convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong>. In the autumn of 1992<\/strong>, he was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of People\u2019s Deputies of Kulob Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 19, 1992<\/strong>, at the 16th session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong>, Emomali Rahmon was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 6, 1994<\/strong>, he was elected President of the Republic of Tajikistan<\/strong> by nationwide popular vote<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 6, 1999<\/strong>, he was elected President for a second seven-year term<\/strong> on an alternative basis<\/strong> and by popular vote<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 6, 2006<\/strong>, he was elected President for a third seven-year term<\/strong> in free and transparent democratic elections<\/strong> held on an alternative basis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 6, 2013<\/strong>, Emomali Rahmon won the next presidential election with 84.23 percent<\/strong> of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
